My plan was to swim alone today, but I had my swim times mixed up. I thought I’d signed up for noon when, in fact, I’d signed up for 9 a.m. (I was baking these lovely cookies at 9 a.m.) Luckily, SCAQ has a Wednesday noon workout at this pool. I signed up on the spot and swam with Juan. If I swam with him before, it hasn’t been often. Still, he didn’t look familiar. He let me lead. So kind of him. LOL
This was a tough set. Every round was on our 100 base times. There was no rest between the rounds. Our lane’s base time was 1:30. I was swimming decently today. I made all of the 300s sub 4:15, except for one. The last one Juan wanted to split the lane. (There were only two of us. I figured he wanted to push hard that last one.) I was fine with that. He took off like a rocket. (Easy to do when you’ve been drafting the entire workout. LOL) Into the turn for the last 50, he was over a body length ahead of me. I was determined to catch him. In my mind, I wanted to do a Ledecky. (Reference here.) In that last 25 yards, I pulled even and he just outtouched me. But it was so close. He turned to me and grinned. We came in around a 4:09. He said it was 4:05. Regardless, I’m happy with either.
