Warning: Rant ahead.
I forgot to post this yesterday. As you can see, it was a lot of short distances. Well, yesterday was the true beginning of three swimmers per lane. I say “true beginning” because that’s when everyone “discovered” it and when the lap swim hours were cut down to almost nothing. We get 7 a.m., 8 a.m., 12 p.m., 1 p.m., 2 p.m., and 8 p.m. Some of these times we don’t have all 18 lanes. I’m not sure how many we’ll get today, as it seems to change daily without any notification. Although they have cones to indicate speeds for the lanes, people pay no attention to them and no attention to how fast the others in the lane are swimming and the lifeguards don’t enforce the speeds. It’s fine if someone much slower shares my lane as long as we split. This didn’t happen yesterday. Well, it did in the beginning. I split with this woman who got in with me that I was lapping every other lap. Then this dude comes up (even though there were plenty of other lanes with slow people who only had two per lane) and says, “Can I share with you?” I said, “Sure, but you know this is a fast lane right?” The asshole got in anyway and proceeded to go from me catching him every couple of laps to every other lap as he was essentially floating on his back barely moving. WTH, dude!
Needless to say, it made for a very maddening swim. The young woman next to me, who swam circles around me, suffered the same fate. She eventually gave up intervals and put her paddles, pull buoy, and a strap around her ankles and swam the rest of the workout that way.
So, yes, yesterday was a challenging day for me. I am unsure what today will be, but I’m going to do my best not to allow it to get to me. I’ll have to become more inventive to get a good workout. Or maybe I’ll just do a chill workout. Or maybe I should just wait to see what it’s going to be like and go with the flow. This will be challenging because I am a Type A person, especially when swimming. If I set an interval, I like to keep to that interval. I think a lot of us are like that, but . . .
Well, we’ll see what happens, right?
Go forth and keep your cool despite the unintentional assholes you might encounter. Yes, I know it’s a bad situation for all of us, but, really?
