Today, I am interviewing Jenn Nixon, author of the romantic suspense Lucky’s Charm. This is book one in the series. I’m looking forward to book 2, Lucky’s Break.

Thanks for joining me, Jenn.

When did you first dream of being a writer?

I’ve been writing in one form or another since grammar school. I started off writing poetry, eventually stories, and graduated to “Fan Fiction” before it was even a type of genre. After I finished my first original novel, I knew I finally found the creative I’d been searching for. I’ve always been one of those dreamer/creative types, but I can’t act, and singing, which will always be my #1 passion is way too hard to break into (especially now at my age ☺) with all the amazing artists out there now, so writing was a natural progression. When my friends actually enjoyed my first novel—despite it being HORRIBLE—I decided to take it very seriously and learn the craft.

Can you tell us more about your main character Felicia “Lucky” Fascino?

Lucky is the adopted daughter to a former Marine and semi co-founder of the network she works for. Her goal is to keep a promise she made to find the man who killed her mother. She’s a tough, independent woman with more baggage than most people ever have to deal with. Although she’s had a rough life, she still strives to do good in the world despite her life as a contract assassin. Her moral and ethical struggle was very interesting to delve into.

If your book became a movie, who would be your dream cast?

I would LOVE to see fellow Jersey girl Zoe Saldana and hot as hell Jason Mamoa as Lucky and Kenji. She’s a bit smaller than Lucky but she’d do the role justice.

Do you prefer silence when you write or a noise/music? If music, what did you listen to while writing the Lucky Series?

I actually had a couple of play lists while writing Lucky’s story. It was mostly rock, alternative, and pop songs. One play list title was called “Angsty Music” LOL which fits Lucky’s perfectly.

Plotter or pantser?

Panster, hands down.

Normally for me a character or plot idea comes first. Sometimes I use an outline to help, but usually, I plot out the bare bones of the story and roll it around in my head for a while. I build up the characters next, making them into real people with a past or back story, job, a few personality quirks and a look, then, I just go for it. It can be difficult, but I’ve found when I plot the whole story out to the end, I lose interest because I’m forced to make that ending. Instead, I let the characters lead the way. Good thing, too, because if I didn’t, Kenji wouldn’t be in Lucky’s Charm and he’s one of my favorite characters.

Personal/fun questions:

Milk or dark chocolate?

Milk unless I’m desperate.

If you could live anywhere in the world (pretend there are no diseases, civil wars, hostile governments), where would you live?

Of the places I’ve visited, I would love to live in Scotland or England. Of the places I’ve only seen on screen, I’d love to check out Japan or Australia.

Coffee, tea, soda, water, or alcohol? (grin)

Hate coffee, but love the smell. I’m an Earl Grey Tea Gal, Diet Wild Cheery Pepsi soda girl, I do drink and actually like water but not alcohol, I’ll have the occasional sweet drink on special occasions.

Tree house, regular house, or cave?

I think a treehouse would be pretty dang cool, depending on where it is. ☺

History show, DYI shows, sitcoms, CSI type shows, or reality shows like Keeping up with the Kardashians?

I watch a little bit of everything EXCEPT anything with Kardashian in it. Most of the reality shows I like are competition type, The Voice, American Idol, Project Runway, Survivor. I love the History Channel, and I’m pretty much open to watching any genre of show, though I have been cutting back on my cop procedurals.

Is there anything else you’d like to share?

Thanks for having me!

My pleasure. 🙂
