Round RobinThis month’s Round Robin topic is food, in particular our favorite food. As we are approaching Thanksgiving (at least for us Yanks), it seems an appropriate topic. The only thing I’ve realized is that I really don’t have, and never have had, a favorite food. It would be safer to say I have favorite foods.

As I have grown older, my favorite foods have changed. I think this is probably safe to say for most people. When I was a baby, it was breast milk. (grin) By early childhood, I loved pizza, spaghetti, donuts, candy, dove, stroganoff, garlic bread, Armenian cracker bread, hamburgers, artichoke, asparagus, cooked spinach, carrot salad, ice cream, strawberries, peaches, blackberries, and… I guess I had a large list. It depended on any given day.

The same is true now. I have a lot of “favorite foods,” but it really depends on my mood. Sometimes, it’s chocolate. Sometimes, it’s peanuts. Sometimes, it’s my mother’s persimmon cookies. Last night, it was my homemade spaghetti and butternut squash. (Yum!) When I was pregnant with my daughter, I lived on saltine crackers and Monterey Jack cheese. (Now, I can eat the crackers, but I no longer care for that cheese. LOL) Later, bean sprouts were manna from heaven. (That is no longer true either. The joys of being pregnant. 😀 )

This time of year, I love chili, soup, spaghetti, and all the warm comfort foods that go with the season. Come summer, I’ll crave salads, fruit, and cooler foods like ice creams. Perhaps, I am more primal than I realized.

There is nothing like coming off the hill from skiing for an entire day to the scent of fresh baked cookies. I could eat all of them. LOL Or at the end of a long hike on a hot day ice cold freshly cut watermelon. I am salivating just thinking about it.

It would be easier to say what food I don’t like. That’s a short list so far. Let’s see:

  • Most seafood/fish—so sushi’s out
  • Dark chocolate (although I will eat it if there’s no other chocolate around)
  • Rye bread
  • Cabbage/Brussels sprouts
  • Liver
  • Really spicy food, including curry (gag)

Yup, that’s about it.

So, do you have a favorite food?

Thanks for stopping by. While you are at it, why don’t you visit some of the other authors who are also participating in the round robin.
